Did you know?
The compression ratio is the ratio between the volume of the cylinder and combustion chamber in an internal combustion engine at their maximum and minimum values. A fundamental specification for such engines, it is measured two ways: the static compression ratio, calculated based on the relative volumes of the combustion chamber and the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke, and the volume of the combustion chamber when the pis… WebA healthy engine will give the same values for all the chambers, an unhealthy gives different readings. But the standard values are about 9 for a 18v engine, which is the compression ratio of a new/rebuild engine (9:1). Other engine had less, 18GD/18GF had 8.8:1. Original american from 1972 had 8:1.
Web22 de jun. de 2024 · Test #1 taking readings on the 3rd cycle: cylinder 1 = 100psi, 2 = 90, 3 = 100, 4 = 95, 5 = 100, 6 = 100. Test #2 was cranking until the max pressure was achieved. Each cylinder measured ~180psi on the 6th cycle. For grins I tried a wet test cranking 3 cycles on cyl 3 (easiest to reach), which measured 100psi. Since the engine is rebuilt and not brand new, the 149lbs and 145 might be ok, but I really don't know. Seems strange otherwise.
Web15 de nov. de 2024 · Time needed: 30 minutes. Testing compression requires you to crank the engine several revolutions, and you don’t want it to fire in the process. Remove the fuel-pump and fuel-injection fuses so you’re not dumping petrol into the cylinders each time you crank the engine. Then, disconnect the coil packs.
